English 12b Final Blog

Jeffconet is an interesting place, their is diversity, and individuality like no other high school I can think of. When I first came to Jeffco net it took me awhile to get used to the setting of the whole school.  Now that I have been here for a year I have accepted the way that we are taught here.
Every person has a different way that they learn, at this school I believe that is what this school wants you to realize that every person is an individuality capable of many different things.  We all perceive things differently and we have have a different way to think of what we are learning and how we can use it later in our life. I learned that from this high school it has taught me that we are individuals and it doesn't matter if you are slower than someone or if there work is better than your work, because it is all an opinion. Your opinion about yourself is what really matters and by putting your best effort in to everything you read, write, and create is how you find out how you really learn. Doing what you need to do to learn is what matters in your life.
Digital literacy plays apart in my future, because "digital" is our future, everything that we are learning in our classes will help us in our future even though most of the information will be outdated, the language will still be there the thought is still there of how we read, write and create our work.

Art Critique

The piece of art that I chose is a very unique painting done by Bev Doolittle.  The name of this piece is "The Forrest has Eyes". The reason I chose this painting is because of its complexity, from the emotions of all the faces to how they all tell the story of the rider and where he's going. The first thing I notice when I look at this picture is the emotions that the faces are creating. When I see the faces in the background I picture where the rider has come from and the reason why he is on this quest. You can see the sadness, happiness, and determination in the background, as if he was coming from somewhere that cared about him but yet they are accepting that he is on his way to new beginning. I noticed that the faces that are in front of him are the largest of the faces, I think she did that to say,  you should always look at what's ahead and which path to take. The second largest face on the right looks as if it is saying to observe all of your surroundings because his life could depend on observation and observation will lead you were you want to go. The faces in the water seem to show that he respects the path that he is taking and wherever it may take him. Some of the faces look like he has been on a trip through the forrest with his two horses, alone but not alone to his imagination that takes over from the long quest. Overall I think this painting is undoubtedly fascinating to the eye and the mind, it makes one wonder the eye of your mind and what you see and feel.

State of the Union (Obama Speech)

Obama's speech seemed very convincing and promising to the youth of the society as well as the adolescents, maybe a little too promising. I think he directed his speech to the youth, as well as our future and what he can do to make it easier for us. To me it all seems very convincing but I don't really believe what he is saying is all that true and I won't believe it until it happens. His goals for the education of our youth, and to have the highest graduation rate by 2020 are plausible but I think he is setting goals that are not in his reach. The fact that he is setting goals that are 11 years away, and seven years away from the end of his term, if he doesn't get reelected makes it seem like he is only trying to give himself more time to do other things. If he really wanted to do something about our education, I think he would set goals for achieving a better graduation rate year by year not in 11 years. The debts that he talked about were completely over thought, and when he spoke about the debt that his generation inherited, everyone rose as if they were proud of it. He is only persuading the people bit by bit to the point were he can say anything positive any everyone will stand up and clap without him even explaining what his approach to solve the problem is, that is if he even does. I will stay to believe that he is hoping that "we" will make the "change" and he is only there to keep us persuaded.

Graduation Speech

"A man is but the product of his thoughts what he thinks, he becomes." Gandhi Mohandas. High school went by faster than I had expected. Now my senior year has almost reached its end and I wonder where those four years went. I know now that those four years have been some of the most memorable moments of my life. There has been a lot of ups and downs but over all I have had a fun time. I can remember being a freshmen and the first day of school I thought i was going to get made fun of or be picked on, but that didnt happen. I was excepted as who I was and nothing more than that. At first I was nervous then as the days went on I started to enjoy being around those kids that your supposed to look up to. I remember once as a freshmen it was the first week of school and I was in pysical fitness class. There was this kid that knocked the books out of my hands and said "Welcome to High school". For a couple of weeks after that I tryed to stay away from that kid because I thought he was going to keep giving me grief. After a couple weeks I thought he was going to be the kid that picked on me for my high school years but that wasnt the reality of it. I found out that all the ups and downs of my high school years have been just nothing more than memories to remember and times to forget, for your thoughts are the product of your being, and what you want to be will be consumed by your thoughts.

Introduction

I expect this class to be a good learning experience. I hope to learn about new English literature, and new writing techniques. I expect to read many different short stories and discuss the meanings of the short stories. I expect to do many different activities that involve class discussions.
I want to learn new skills about writing and different ways of writing. I want to inprove my skills in grammar, punctuation, and writing techniques. Learning new techniques in writing can help me overall with my writing skill as well as my reading skills.
My strengths in English are not so good, I'm a fairly good writer but it takes me a while to put my thinking into words. I'm an average reader, I like to read non fiction books because it is either true or based on a true story. I enjoy writing when it is something that interests me and I can really put a deep opinion in about what I'm writing.
